Welcome to Our Research Group

Welcome to the Human Motivation and Autonomy research group! We are an international, interdisciplinary team of scholars dedicated to exploring motivation through the lens of self-determination theory (SDT). Our members come from diverse institutions and countries, bringing a broad range of expertise across various fields. Together, we investigate the principles of autonomy, competence, and relatedness that drive human motivation and behaviour in contexts such as education, health, work, sports, and beyond. By fostering collaboration across disciplines, we aim to deepen the understanding of how intrinsic motivation and well-being can be nurtured in different domains. The group's work contributes to broader societal goals, such as improving mental health, fostering lifelong learning, and developing policies prioritising human well-being. The research group generates knowledge that benefits educators, leaders, coaches, stakeholders and policymakers, ensuring that motivation and autonomy remain central to pursuing a flourishing and equitable society.
