Phase Two: Monitoring the Achievements of Research Groups at the University of Jordan
As part of its commitment to fostering impactful and sustainable research, the University of Jordan is entering the second phase of its research group initiative: the systematic monitoring and evaluation of group achievements. This phase focuses on assessing the scientific output, collaboration effectiveness, and societal impact of each group, based on predefined benchmarks. Research groups are expected to demonstrate progress in project implementation, publication quality, funding acquisition, and engagement with industry or community stakeholders. The University will use these outcomes to guide future support, ensure alignment with national priorities, and recognize exemplary performance.
Six months after the official recognition and announcement of research groups through the University of Jordan’s official media channels, and in line with the University’s commitment to ensuring the effectiveness of these groups in producing impactful, high-quality research that serves relevant sectors, the Research Group Accreditation Committee will hold meetings with each announced group to assess the following:
Establishing an Internal Communication Platform:
Each research group must create an internal communication channel that facilitates regular meetings and scientific discussions among members. This ensures continuous academic dialogue and the exchange of research ideas. The Principal Investigator (PI) is responsible for coordinating and monitoring these meetings to ensure the active engagement of all members and progress toward the group’s research objectives.
Developing a Clear Research Plan:
A research plan should be prepared to outline the projects intended for implementation in line with the group’s research direction and in response to the needs of relevant sectors. The plan must clearly define the roles and responsibilities of each member to promote collaboration and integration. This plan should be reviewed and updated regularly during meetings.
Preparing and Submitting Research Proposals:
Based on the group’s research plan, projects requiring financial support should be identified. Research proposals should be developed accordingly to seek funding from local or international sources, with roles and contributions clearly distributed among the group members.
Monitoring Ongoing and Completed Research:
The group must track the progress of ongoing projects, discuss future research initiatives, and clarify each member’s role in implementation, writing, publishing, and networking with relevant sectors.
Ensuring Active Participation of All Members:
During regular meetings, emphasis should be placed on the importance of active participation from all members, including attending meetings, contributing to research development, authoring and publishing papers, and engaging in the group’s activities. The need to add new members or suspend inactive ones should also be assessed. It is essential to ensure that anyone listed as a co-author on a publication has made a meaningful and genuine contribution, in accordance with research ethics.
Regularly Updating the Group’s Website:
Each research group is expected to maintain an up-to-date website that includes news, photos, videos, project details, published research, collaborative activities, and other approved content.
