Fungal endophytes and their effect on aphids

Fungal endophytes were isolated from wheat plants cultivated in various regions of Jordan to explore their diversity and potential benefits. These endophytes were identified using morphological characteristics and molecular techniques such as DNA sequencing. The isolated fungi included species known for their plant-growth-promoting and biocontrol properties. To evaluate their effect on wheat aphids, controlled bioassays were conducted where wheat plants inoculated with specific endophytes were exposed to aphid infestation. Results demonstrated that certain fungal endophytes significantly reduced aphid populations, likely through enhancing plant resistance or producing bioactive compounds detrimental to the pests.
