Fusarium culmorum on wheat

Fusarium culmorum is a soilborne fungal pathogen that causes crown rot, foot rot, root rot, and head blight in wheat. The first confirmed report of F. culmorum causing crown rot on wheat in Jordan was published in Plant Disease in December 2023. Researchers observed typical symptoms—brownish basal stem rot, reduced seedling vigor, and rapid plant collapse—during surveys from 2016 to 2022 . Isolates exhibited characteristic macroconidia (25–50 µm long, 3–5 septa) and confirmed identity via TEF1-α gene sequencing, marking the first molecularly backed documentation of this pathogen in Jordanian wheat fields
