About:

Jamal Y. Ayad is a Professor of Crop Physiology at the School of Agriculture, University of Jordan, where he has been teaching and conducting research since 1999. With over 26 years of experience in undergraduate and graduate education, he has supervised and co-supervised 18 Ph.D. and 9 M.Sc. students. He currently serves as Head of the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science.

Dr. Ayad's research focuses on plant responses to environmental stresses, particularly drought and salinity. His work aims to understand the physiological mechanisms underlying stress tolerance, enhance the resilience of major food and feed crops, and assess nutrient uptake and partitioning to mitigate stress effects. His research group also investigates plant-microbial interactions, including the characterization of rhizospheric and endophytic microorganisms in stress-prone environments. Additionally, he explores climate change adaptation strategies to sustain crop productivity in Jordan.

Beyond academia, Dr. Ayad has contributed to national and international initiatives, serving as a National Consultant for the Low Rainfall Areas Program at the National Center for Agricultural Research and Extension (NCARE) (2008–2009) and as Assistant Dean for Community Affairs at the University of Jordan's Deanship of Academic Research (2012–2014).
