Prof Kafawin got his PhD from North Dakota, USA working on oat breeding.

He was a former dean for the school of Agriculture and former Vice President at the University of Jordan. He is now a faculty at the school of Agriculture, University of Jordan (teaching and research).

He is plant breeder with research focus on breeding wheat and barley genotypes. He is interested in evolutionary populations of wheat and barley in Jordan under changing environmental conditions, which are replicated by farmers and researchers with natural selection.

He published major articles related to the investigation of natural landraces of wheat in Jordan and their adaptation to local conditions. In addition he advised multiple PhD students in breeding of wheat populations in Jordan.
