Professor Dr. Al-Bashir Participates in a Conference Entitled Values in General Education: Towards Building a Generation that is Belonging, Aware, and Responsible”

Participation of Professor Dr. Akram Al-Bashir in the conference “Values in General Education: Towards Building a Generation that is Belonging, Aware, and Responsible”, which was held at the Royal Cultural Center on 19–20 November 2025 and organized by the Global Moderation Forum, the Institute of Islamic Thought, and the Ministry of Education.

The title of the research paper was “Values Embedded in the ‘Arabic Is My Language’ Textbook: A Statistical and Analytical Study of Reading Texts.”

This research paper was based on studying values and their manifestations in the reading texts included in the Arabic Is My Language student textbooks for grades seven through eleven (academic stream). The paper addressed the value-based and educational mission of texts in general, and educational texts in particular. It sought—through a statistical and analytical approach—to explore these value dimensions within reading lessons.

In its first section, the paper focused on the theoretical framework by establishing both the linguistic and terminological meanings of “value.” It also addressed different classifications of values and attempted to highlight the importance of religious, national, and social values, emphasizing the overlapping nature and diminishing boundaries between them, as religious, national, and social values often converge within the same framework, making it difficult to draw clear distinctions between them. Additionally, the paper introduced the values reflected in the general framework of the Arabic Is My Language subject, the general curriculum framework, and the Education Law No. (3) of 1994.

The second section examined the embedded values using a descriptive statistical approach, aiming to reveal the extent to which reading texts adhere to value-based standards. It also analyzed how texts are distributed across aesthetic and cognitive dimensions, and presented statistical percentages of religious, national, social, human, and economic values, ultimately producing a statistical scale showing the percentage of each value.

The third section provided an in-depth analysis of the values embedded in the reading texts, aiming to highlight the importance of religious, literary, and scientific knowledge-based texts in strengthening values within learners’ personalities, supporting their religious discipline, social life, relationships with others, openness to the world, understanding of moderation, sharing opportunities, and justice.
