Cambridge Muslim College hosted a special scholarly event on 3 July 2025 dedicated to the study of Imām al-Bukhārī’s Ṣaḥīḥ, offering fresh academic perspectives on its structure, theological depth, and historical methodology.
The event featured talks by Dr Belal Alabbas and Dr Oumama Hamasha, who explored the enduring scholarly significance of Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī within the Islamic intellectual tradition. The presentations examined the work not only as a foundational ḥadīth collection, but also as a carefully structured text reflecting al-Bukhārī’s sophisticated methodological and theological vision.
The discussions highlighted key aspects of al-Bukhārī’s approach, including his organisation of material, engagement with legal and theological themes, and his critical handling of transmitted reports. Particular attention was given to the relevance of his methodology for contemporary scholarship in ḥadīth studies and Islamic intellectual history.
The event attracted a strong academic audience and generated thoughtful discussion, underscoring the continued importance of classical Islamic scholarship within modern academic contexts. It also reflected Cambridge Muslim College’s ongoing commitment to fostering rigorous engagement with the Islamic tradition through scholarly dialogue and research-led events.
