Dr Oumama Hamasha participated in the British Association for Islamic Studies (BRAIS) 2025 conference, hosted by the University of Cambridge from 30 June to 1 July 2025, alongside a distinguished group of scholars and academics specialising in Islamic studies from around the world.
During the conference, Dr Hamasha presented a research paper examining the critical assessment of historical narratives related to the Prophet Muḥammad’s biography, through an analysis of the methodologies employed by ḥadīth scholars and historians in their treatment of historical material. The paper highlighted the methodological differences between these two scholarly traditions and explored their impact on shaping the understanding of the Prophet’s sīrah within the Islamic intellectual heritage.
The session was marked by strong academic engagement and in-depth discussions with specialised researchers, contributing to the enrichment of scholarly dialogue on approaches to reading and interpreting the sīrah, and fostering the exchange of expertise and research perspectives in this vital field.
This participation forms part of an ongoing commitment to contributing to specialised international conferences and strengthening academic presence in contemporary debates related to Islamic studies and historical methodology.
