"World Turkic Languages Day," declared as December 15th by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), was celebrated in Jordan. The event, organized under the patronage of the Turkish Embassy in Amman, was held by the Amman Yunus Emre Institute. Attendees included the Turkish Ambassador to Amman, Yakup Caymazoğlu, the Azerbaijani Ambassador, Şahin Abullayev, representatives from other Turkic republics in Jordan, representatives of Turkish institutions in Jordan, and Jordanian students studying Turkish. The program, which began with a speech by Ambassador Caymazoğlu, included a lecture by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bağdagül Musa, a faculty member of the Turkish-English Section of the Department of Asian Languages/ School of Foreign Languages at the University of Jordan, titled "The Historical Development of the Turkish Language and Turkic Dialects." In the interactive conference, students from the Turkish-English Section read examples from 8 different historical Turkic dialects and 18 contemporary Turkic dialects.
In the second cultural part of the event, students from the Turkish-English Department sang in choirs and songs in different Turkish dialects, recited poems in contemporary Turkish dialects, and acted in theatrical plays such as the Karagöz and Hacivat shadow play and Mete Han's Love for His Homeland, under the coordination of Dr. Bağdagül MUSSA and accompanied by Dr. Utku ÖDEN, playing the saz (a Turkish stringed instrument), who are the members of the research group at the same time.
