Abstract: For centuries, bioactive phytocompounds (BPCs) from plants have been instrumental in treating various health issues and now serve as key resources for modern drug discovery. Despite their potential, BPCs face significant challenges in therapeutic applications, such as low solubility, instability, short half-life, poor bioavailability, and lack of targeted organ delivery. To address these limitations, researchers have turned to nanoformulation (NF) technologies, which have shown significant promise in enhancing the solubility, stability, and overall pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of BPCs. This review explores NF strategies to overcome these barriers, covering recent advancements in both preclinical and clinical applications for imaging and therapeutic purposes. Additionally, it emphasizes NF’s critical role in advancing BPC-based drug development and discusses future opportunities for translating BPCs from the lab to clinical practice, extending patent life, and exploring new therapeutic uses beyond initial indications.
