Resources

When preparing research and studies, researchers in our research team and the Department of Geography in general require data related to the topic of study. This data is obtained from various sources such as organizations and government institutions, public sector agencies, published research on global websites, and local and international scientific journals. Researchers also utilize specialized software for analyzing geographical data.

Below are some of the sources from which researchers obtain the data they need to prepare their geographical studies:

1. The Department of Statistics of Jordan is a central institution in supporting scientific research, serving as the primary and reliable source of official data. Through the systematic collection, processing, and high-quality dissemination of information across key sectors for spatial geographic and demographic primary data

2.The Higher Population Council plays a strategic role in the national research framework, serving as a specialized source of population data and an active partner in demographic and development studies. By collecting, analyzing, and disseminating data related to population trends, reproductive health, migration, and youth, the Council provides essential inputs for academic research, policy analysis, and strategic planning. Moreover, it maintains ongoing collaboration with universities, research institutions, and international agencies, contributing to the design, implementation, and utilization of studies that support evidence-based policymaking.

3.The Royal Jordanian Geographic Centre (RJGC) serves as a fundamental source of spatial and  non spatial geographic data in Jordan; By producing, managing, and distributing accurate geospatial information, including topographic maps, satellite imagery, geographic information system (GIS) datasets, and thematic maps. (RJGC) provides essential data for a wide range of applications. These include urban planning, environmental management, disaster risk assessment, infrastructure development, and scientific research.

8. Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer-based system used to collect, store, analyze, output, and distribute geographic data and information. It is utilized in a variety of applications, including urban planning, natural resource management, emergency management, traffic management, agriculture, and many more.

GIS applications are used in urban planning for land management, natural resource management, weather forecasting to analyze meteorological data, public space planning, the creation of topographic maps, and more.

9. USGS -Remote Sensing dataThe Department of Geography uses remote sensing in a variety of applications, such as mapping, monitoring environmental changes, analyzing geographic phenomena, estimating natural resources, and conducting studies for disaster-affected areas.

Remote sensing applications in the Geography Department are employed for mapping, monitoring environmental changes, analyzing geographic phenomena, estimating natural resources, and preparing studies for areas affected by disasters.
