Dr. Farajat is a tourism and heritage scholar with a PhD in Heritage and Tourism Studies and a Master's degree in International Tourism and Hospitality Management from the United Kingdom. His academic and professional trajectory integrates scholarly research with applied leadership in the tourism and heritage sectors in both Jordan and Europe. From 2013 to 2018, Dr. Farajat served as an Assistant Professor of Tourism at the University of Jordan. Between 2018 and 2024, he held senior public sector roles as Chief Commissioner and Commissioner for the Petra Archaeological Park under the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), where he led national strategies for sustainable tourism, heritage preservation, and community-based development. His research focuses on sustainable tourism development, destination management and marketing, heritage and national identity, and tourism in times of crisis. He has contributed to international conferences and has been actively engaged in organizing academic events and workshops focused on tourism and heritage. His work emphasizes the role of tourism as a driver of inclusive and sustainable development, with particular interest in cultural heritage's potential to benefit local communities and economies. Currently reappointed at the University of Jordan, Dr. Farajat is contributing to interdisciplinary teaching and research on sustainable tourism, with a focus on cultural resource management in heritage-rich contexts like Petra.
