Studied infection biology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. PhD thesis on the use of human tissue in infection research at Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology in 2010. Then postdoctoral researcher at Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology and at the Department of Applied Biochemistry at Technical University of Berlin until 2023. He is working on questions of particular clinical relevance, including the relationship between chronic bacterial infections, host-pathogen interactions, autophagy, inflammation, and cancer using 3D bioprinting, organoid and spheroids technologies as an alternative to animal testing.​
