We honored to have contributed to a groundbreaking research project that was highlighted in Yahoo News (https://uk.news.yahoo.com/holographic-history-making-night-museum-164439011.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAIbXsqnERgPgOPkz9OK63sMt-jXQoAjVAhUGjStURujW4fjTZsUmOCJWN2ENiv9y7O5B5LkwwOMq_HcWBr0-uApnuXG1FdjrBZ_f37x8FX7ZvV85gH9zRTFh-8ZTGvo2Pjax6lEggydwSpVaTamw8kF1gikSiun0pi50bi81D7qI). This research, detailed in our paper titled "Mixed Reality in the Tourism and Cultural Heritage Sector" (DOI: 10.1007/s10055-020-00497-9), explores the transformative potential of mixed reality (MR) technology in enhancing the museum experience.
Our study introduces a theoretical framework to assess the usefulness, ease of use, enjoyment, interactivity, and future applications of MR guidance systems. By implementing the MuseumEye MR application in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, we conducted mixed method surveys with 171 participants. The findings underscored the critical role of tour guides in mediating the relationship between perceived usefulness, ease of use, multimedia, UI design, interactivity, and the intention to use MR technology.
This research not only showcases the potential of MR to revolutionize museum experiences by combining real-time visual and audio information with computer-generated images and museum artifacts but also emphasizes its role in ensuring sustainability and enhancing visitor engagement. These advancements are pivotal in driving the economic growth of museums and the broader cultural heritage sector.
