Partnerships

Criminal Law research group at the University of Jordan is getting ready to enter into strategic partnerships with various parties throughout Jordan, whereby it will enhance research output and widen the scope of understanding of the criminal justice system of the country.

A vital partner that would accompany the group is the Jordanian Ministry of Justice, which would ensure an in-depth perception of reforms in law, policy development, and changes in procedures. Working with such a ministry would place the group on the inside of the process whereby the frameworks of law evolve to accommodate the needs of society, thus enabling research directly relevant to current changes taking place within the criminal justice system.

Engagement with the Judicial Council of Jordan would allow the group to work closely with judges and legal practitioners. This partnership would offer the opportunity to explore judicial perspectives and the practical application of laws within courtrooms, enriching the group's understanding of judicial processes and decision-making in criminal cases.

Such would link academia with professional practice in criminal law on issues of legal education, professional development, and the challenges pertinent to the practical application of lawyers in the field of criminal justice through the Jordanian Bar Association to make sure the research is theoretically sound and practically applicable.

The second potential partner would be the Public Security Directorate, which would provide access to law enforcement practices, crime trends, and the procedural aspects of criminal investigations. Such a partnership would inevitably yield valuable real-time data useful in examining the dynamics of crime and policing in Jordan and inform research into law enforcement effectiveness and criminal justice reform.

In light of that consideration, addressing human rights concerns in the system of justice cannot be deeper or more constructive without collaboration with Jordan's National Centre for Human Rights. It would be important to enhancing the legal protection for victims and integrating human rights considerations into the process of criminal justice concerning vulnerable populations.

Other plans include academic cooperation with other faculties of law and legal research institutes at other Jordanian universities, such as Yarmouk University and the Jordan University of Science and Technology. The objective of this cooperation would be to develop joint research projects, academic exchanges, and interdisciplinary studies that would enhance deeper exploration of criminal law from a number of academic perspectives.

Collaboration with Jordanian civil society organizations-NGOs working in the areas of legal aid, human rights, and criminal justice reform-provides a grassroots level of insight into the real-world challenges and community-based solutions related to criminal justice. The participation of such organizations is critical in the advocacy of reforms and for research to address pressing issues affecting the society.

The group also identifies the Jordanian Legislative Assembly for possible collaboration to discourse and comment on pending legal reforms and legislation. The partnership would secure the research findings' direct implications for the development of new laws and policies in the criminal justice system.

In this regard, it is important that empirical research be supported by the Jordanian Department of Statistics through providing crime data and trends. This could, therefore, provide a data-driven understanding of the trends in crime patterns and their implications for criminal law.

Finally, the Jordanian Center for Strategic Studies would offer a wider socio-political insight into criminal law and policies of justice. Such an approach would help the research group explore the various external factors influencing crime and its enforcement in Jordan through intersections between criminal justice and broader social trends.

Such collaborations would sizably enhance the research work of Criminal Law research group by providing deep, full understanding in regard to criminal law and justice in Jordan.
