The objective of this study is to examine the stipulations outlined in Article 16 of the recently enacted Jordanian Cybercrime Law No. 17 of 2023. The present article introduces a novel criminal offence, namely the crime of character assassination, which was previously non-existent. The lack of clarity in the legislator's definition of character assassination necessitated the need for a definition that aligns with legal interpretation norms and adheres to the idea of legality. The analysis examined the constituent components of the offence, namely actus reus and mens rea, as well as the corresponding penalty imposed upon the offender. The research determined that it is imperative for the legislator to establish a definitive criterion for this offence in order to prevent the judge from broadening its interpretation and, furthermore, to differentiate it from other comparable offences.
