Discus​sion on biodiversity and plant propagation

Prof. Ayed Al-Abdallat and Prof. Zakaria Al-Ajlouni participated in a panel discus​sion on biodiversity and plant propagation. This event was organized by the National Center for Agricultural Research and held under the patronage of its director general, Prof. Ibrahim Al-Rawashdeh. The objective of the event was to promote the sustainability of the National Seed Bank.

In alignment with the Royal Vision, the panel endeavored to formulate strategic national guidelines for the sustenance and investment in the National Seed Bank, with the objective of fortifying national food security. The participants included esteemed experts from the University of Jordan, Mu'tah University, and the Jordan University of Science and Technology, as well as retired specialists from the National Center for Agricultural Research. This diverse representation reflected a participatory approach designed to leverage accumulated national expertise.

The panel's deliberations culminated in the formulation of pivotal strategic recommendations, which are outlined below:

  • The initial step in this process is the formulation of a comprehensive national strategy for the Seed Bank.
  • The enhancement of partnerships with official and academic institutions is of paramount importance.
  • The establishment of a connection between the Seed Bank and genetic improvement programs is imperative for the advancement of the field.
  • The objective is to enhance the capabilities of technical personnel.
  • ​​The establishment of proactive risk management plans is imperative for the safeguarding of agricultural genetic resources.

The workshop concluded with a field tour of the National Seed Bank, during which participants gained direct exposure to the mechanisms and techniques employed in the conservation of biodiversity and its sustainability for future generations.
