The Center for Documents, Manuscripts, and Levant Studies - The University of Jordan

The Center for Documents and Manuscripts at the University of Jordan collects and archives a wide range of documents, including manuscripts, court records, Islamic endowment papers, newspapers, reports, maps, and photographs. Its primary role is to preserve these materials scientifically and create a conducive environment for scholarly research on the cultural heritage of the Levant region.

The Center for Documents and Manuscripts at the University of Jordan offers valuable resources for our research group, "Reconsidering the Historical Legacy of Ibn Khaldun." Its vast collection of historical documents and manuscripts from the Levant provides essential materials for studying the relationship between language and history in the region. This supports our research with primary sources that enhance our understanding of these complex relationships.

Additionally, individuals outside the university can benefit by accessing the center's archives for research purposes, facilitating interdisciplinary studies in history, linguistics, religion, and cultural studies. The public can also participate in workshops, lectures, and exhibitions hosted by the center, creating an environment for wider academic collaboration and public engagement.

Also, the most important resource is Ibn Khaldun's own writing, particularly his magnum opus, the Kitāb al-ʻIbar ("Book of Lessons"). This is a universal history, and its detailed introduction, the Muqaddimah (Prolegomena), is the central text for anyone studying his theories.
