​Professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System, Chief of the Division of Rheumatology, and Medical Director of the Arthritis Clinic, Dr. Sweiss is also the Founder and Director of the Bernie Mac Sarcoidosis Translational Advanced Research Center (STAR).

Dr. Sweiss has a strong clinical and research focus on sarcoidosis, with a particular interest in bridging basic science and clinical research to advance patient care. Her translational research efforts aim to improve outcomes for sarcoidosis patients through innovative therapies.

As principal investigator, she has led numerous clinical trials investigating treatments for sarcoidosis, scleroderma, Raynaud’s phenomenon, and rheumatoid arthritis, particularly in cases resistant to traditional therapies.In recognition of her expertise, Dr. Sweiss holds an honorary professorship at the School of Medicine at the University of Jordan.
