A Fulbright Scholar Alumni at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. NY, USA in the field of cancer immunotherapy, CRISPR Cas9 and iPSCs technology.

Prof. Assaf received her PhD degree in 2008 from The school of Medicine at University of Leicester, UK. She is currently working as a Full Professor at the School of Pharmacy, University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan.

Prof. Areej Assaf  have earned a worldwide recognized awards, namely, Daniel Turnberg Fellowship Award working as a research fellow at the school of Medicine in Cardiff University, UK in 2013. Erasmus+ overseas incoming teaching staff grant teaching at Pavia University, Italy in 2016 teaching about CRISPR cas9 gene editing and a Fulbright Research Scholar Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Manhattan, NY, USA in 2018/2019. Recently, she and the research team registered the patent “Pharmaceutical Compositions Derived from Benzoxazepine for Cancer Treatment" with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

During her Fulbright fellowship, her research focused on developing technologies to conduct research projects in the field of stem cell biology and cancer immunotherapy. She gained practical knowledge and experience for novel techniques like CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing technology and cancer vaccine for cancer immunotherapy studies. Prof. Assaf successfully established the technologies for generating induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from PBMCs and differentiated them to CD34+ cells to be used in further studies for complex diseases. She was also successful to CRISPR out two HLA Class I genes from a human lymphoma cell line to be used for further functional and therapeutic studies.

Prof. Areej Assaf was the head of the executive and scientific committees of the School of Pharmacy 2021 conference held blended on April 2021 and the school of Pharmacy 2023 International Symposium held on May 13th 2023 at the University of Jordan and a member of the executive/organizing committees of another eight international conferences in the field of immunology and molecular. She also organized a successful series of weekly COVID-19 webinars that was directed to Arabs worldwide and extended between November 2020 and February 2021.

Finally, Prof. Areej Assaf has more than 20 peer reviewed publications in reputable ISI Journals in the field of immunotherapy, oncology and molecular Immunology.​​
