The research group actively seeks collaboration between Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II School of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Jordan and the Politics and Society Institute (PSI).
Our research group “Religious Communities and Non-State Actors in the Middle East” is committed to collaboration and knowledge-sharing. To strengthen our work, we are proud to develop partnerships with key institutions in Jordan, the region, and beyond.
Our partners include ministries, research centers, and think tanks that share our interest in exploring the role of religion, politics, and non-state actors in shaping societies. Together, we aim to advance academic research, foster dialogue, and contribute to policy-making that promotes stability, inclusion, and understanding.
Partners
:
Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs
The Ministry can serve as a key governmental partner by providing insights into Jordan’s policies on political participation, religious representation, and electoral reform. Collaboration with the Ministry will allow the group to link its academic findings with policymaking processes and to generate policy-relevant recommendations.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs can support the group by connecting research to Jordan’s regional and international diplomacy. This partnership can help the group analyze how Jordan engages with religious communities and non-state actors across borders, while also offering access to official perspectives and networks.
Politics and Society Institute (PSI)
PSI provides a valuable platform for joint research, policy dialogues, and workshops on religion and politics in the region. Partnering with PSI will allow the group to engage with practitioners, policymakers, and media circles, thus broadening the impact of its work beyond academia.
Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs
The Ministry is central to understanding the role of religion in public life, as it oversees mosques, religious education, and Islamic endowments in Jordan. Partnering with the Ministry will allow the group to engage with official religious discourse, examine how state–religion relations are managed, and explore the impact of religious institutions on society and governance.
Konrad Adenauer Stiftung – Amman Office
KAS has long supported projects on democracy, political participation, and dialogue in Jordan. By partnering with KAS, the group can gain support for workshops, capacity-building programs, and publications focused on religion, governance, and the role of non-state actors.
Friedrich Ebert Stiftung – Jordan and Iraq Office
FES brings expertise in social justice, governance, and civic engagement. The group can collaborate with FES to highlight the social and developmental dimensions of religion in politics and to organize joint conferences and policy dialogues on these themes.
Carnegie Middle East Center
Carnegie provides regional and international visibility for cutting-edge research. Partnering with Carnegie allows the group to connect with global scholarly debates, disseminate findings to a broader policy audience, and strengthen comparative perspectives on religion and non-state actors.
Local religious communities and interfaith dialogue forums
Direct engagement with religious communities and interfaith forums will give the group practical insights and grounded perspectives. This collaboration will ensure that research reflects real-life challenges and fosters inclusive dialogue that bridges academic, policy, and community voices.
Regional think tanks and NGOs working on governance, religion, and society
Working with regional think tanks and NGOs enables cross-country comparisons and shared learning. Such partnerships will help situate Jordan’s experience within broader Middle Eastern dynamics and promote collaborative projects that address governance, religion, and non-state actors across borders.
