Dr. Debbie Abuelghanam focuses on religious communities, civil society, and non-state actors in the Middle East. Her research highlights how religious organizations and community-based actors shape governance, social cohesion, and policy-making, particularly in contexts where state authority is limited or contested. Dr. Abuelghanam combines empirical studies with theoretical analysis to provide a nuanced understanding of the role of informal institutions, political participation, and interfaith engagement in contemporary society.
