Dr. Hamzah Al-Qadiri is a full professor of food and environment microbiology, University of Jordan (2006-Present). Additionally, Dr Al-Qadiri is a visiting scholar (senior researcher) and adjunct faculty (2007-2018) at Washington State University and University of Idaho, USA. He obtained his PhD degree in Food Microbiology (major) and Molecular Bioscience (minor) in 2005 from Washington State University, USA; MSc degree in Food Microbiology and B.Sc. degree in Nutrition and Food Science from University of Jordan. Dr Al-Qadiri has an intensive academic, research, technical and consultation experience (more than 20 years, national and international scale) in the fields of food and water microbiology, food safety and hygiene, microbial risk assessment, and food quality control. Major emphasis is to improve food safety and shelf life of food commodities through conducting applicable strategies to control foodborne pathogens. Monitoring safety of food products (microbiological and chemical aspects) is one of the core targets that most of his publications (more than forty manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals) are focusing on to minimize foodborne health threats and to achieve a better life and healthful environment for humans, animals and plants. Detection and identification of pathogens in food, water, and environment using novel techniques such as FT-IR, PCR, and microbial culturing is one of his research scopes as well. For professional service, Dr. Al-Qadiri is a certified lead auditor for ISO 22000 (FSMS) by DNV GL, Norway. He participated as a committee member for the Joint FAO/WHO expert meeting on microbiological risk assessment of Listeria monocytogenes in foods FAO HQ, Rome, Italy, 2022. He serves the Jordanian Food and Drug Administration through service on their Food Safety Committee-JFDA (risk analysis and risk assessment), and at the national Food Standards Committee-Jordan Institution for Standards and Metrology that is involved with the development and implementation of technical specifications for national and international trade in food.
