About:

​Ms. Jaouni is the CEO of the Health Care Accreditation Council (HCAC) since May 2012, the Eastern Mediterranean region’s only independent not-for-profit organization that aims at improving the quality of health and social care services and promoting safer care through accreditation, standards setting, capacity building and consultation. Ms. Jaouni has led HCAC into a regionally and internationally recognized institution, growing its impact on improving care and advocating for patient safety, and is overseeing its expansion regionally . Ms. Jaouni previously served as the Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister of Jordan on public and social policy; leading the Prime Minister’s Agenda on health and education improvement, social development, youth engagement and public sector reform. She was instrumental in formulating and supporting the implementation of new government policies, programs and initiatives related to the wellbeing of citizens, while leading the team in creating and implementing the Prime Minister’s community outreach and field visits. She was also the founding director and four-year manager of the Jordan Breast Cancer Program focusing on raising awareness, setting the guidelines and driving breast cancer screening; growing the program into a nationally and internationally recognized approach that has substantially down staged incidence by ensuring quality screening and increased uptake. Ms. Jaouni has also a wide range of experience consulting on strategy, policy and operations working with Booz Allen Hamilton and holding key positions with World Bank and USAID funded projects . Ms. Jaouni holds a Master degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School, a Post Graduate Diploma in Health Systems Management from the University of London’s School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a Bachelor of Sciences degree from the American University of Beirut in environmental health. Ms. Jaouni serves on several Boards of government and non-profit institutions including the Board of Directors of the Jordan Nursing Council under the leadership of HRH Princess Muna Al Hussein, Al Malath Society for Hospice and Palliative Care, as well as the Education for Employment (efe) – Jordan Chapter. She is the treasurer of the Board of Directors of the International Women Forum – Jordan Chapter and a Board Director of the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) where she chairs the Accreditation Council and is the honorary treasurer of the Society. In addition to having an excellent track record in leadership, negotiation, and communication skills. Ms. Jaouni is the recipient of several awards on leadership. In 2020, she was recognized by Women in Business – Arabia as one of the 365 inspirational Arab women. In 2022, Salma led the health care sector working group for Jordan’s 10-year Economic Vision and she became the recipient of the Centennial Medal from His Majesty King Abdullah II.​
