Dr. Yousef Mustafa Musalam – Academic Biography Date of Birth: June 22, 1978
Dr. Yousef Mustafa Musalam is a Jordanian clinical psychologist and researcher with a strong academic and professional background in counseling and psychotherapy. He holds a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, with a thesis titled “Self-Harm and Its Relationship with Borderline Personality Disorder and Depression Among a Sample of Prison Inmates." He later earned his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology with honors, where his doctoral dissertation focused on “The Effectiveness of a Cognitive Supervision Program for the Bad News Delivery Model in the Mental Health Sector."
Dr. Musalam has been engaged in psychological support work since 2000, and transitioned into clinical psychological practice in 2002. He has provided specialized assessment and psychotherapy services across various mental health settings. His clinical roles have included work at major therapeutic institutions such as the Hope Center for Psychiatric Medicine in Jordan. He has also collaborated with international organizations including Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders). In 2009, he was appointed as an external consultant in psychological care by the United Nations Critical Incidents and Stress Management Office in Jordan.
He is recognized as a certified trainer in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for addiction by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Dr. Musalam received advanced training in psychotherapy at the Albert Ellis Institute, where he achieved the level of Fellow, and at the Beck Institute, where he also completed clinical supervision training. In 2024, he was appointed as the Training Manager for the first Beck Institute training program in Jordan. He has additionally received training from the Oxford Centre for Cognitive Therapy.
Since 2017, Dr. Musalam has developed and led a two-year educational and training program in cognitive behavioral therapy, graduating four cohorts and over 120 students. He currently serves as the General Manager and Clinical Supervisor at the Kalema Center for Behavioral Cognitive Sciences.
His research interests focus on psychological resilience. He is the founder of a developing therapeutic approach known as Resilience –AIM Focused Therapy, which integrates resilience-building into the core of clinical practice.
