Abstract:
In this article, a novel low-profile ultra-wideband (UWB) microstrip patch antenna has been introduced for sub-6 GHz 5G communications, Wi-Fi, and potential 6G applications. The active patch of the proposed design involves a glass shape with a circular slot etched at the top end of the patch to boost the impedance bandwidth of the proposed design. Also, a partial half-circular-shaped ground plane has been used to add further enhancement in terms of the bandwidth of the design. This antenna exhibits a UWB with an increased frequency range from 2.69 GHz to 20.05 GHz along with 152.68% fractional bandwidth (FBW) which covers efficiently the bands of the aforementioned applications. The voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) is lower than 2 over the whole working frequency. The intended design was distributed over lossy FR4 substrate material with 4.4 relative permittivity of and an overall dimension of 35 × 26 × 1. 6 mm3. ANSYS HFSS software was used to obtain the results of the proposed design.
