The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and
Machine Learning (ML) is revolutionizing the field of autonomous
vehicles, enabling safer, more efficient, and more reliable
transportation systems. AI algorithms power critical functions
such as **object detection**, path planning, and **decisionmaking
by processing vast amounts of sensor data from cameras,
LiDAR, radar, and GPS. Machine Learning models, particularly
deep learning networks, excel at identifying and predicting the
behavior of objects and pedestrians in dynamic environments,
enhancing the vehicle’s situational awareness. Furthermore,
reinforcement learning is used to optimize driving strategies
by learning from simulated and real-world experiences. This
paper explores the role of AI and ML in autonomous vehicles,
examining their contributions to navigation, obstacle avoidance,
and traffic management, while also discussing the challenges
and ethical considerations that come with implementing these
technologies in public roadways. The findings suggest that AI
and ML are indispensable for the advancement of autonomous
vehicles and hold the potential to transform global transportation
networks.​
