Obesity is one of the most prominent global health problems today. It is closely associated with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and is a major risk factor for its development and complications. The Healthy Community Clinic (HCC) program uses a motivational interviewing (MI) approach to encourage behavioral change among diabetic patients, thereby improving glycemic control and weight management. The present study assessed the effect of the MI approach on glycemic control and weight management in patients with T2DM. Glycemic indicators, including HbA1c and FBG levels, decreased significantly, with mean differences of 0.69% and 35.47 mg/dL, respectively (p=0.013 and 0.018). Regarding weight-related outcomes, body weight and BMI decreased by 2.01 kg and 0.73 kg/m², respectively, but these changes were not statistically significant. This study demonstrated a promising impact of MI on glycemic control among people living with T2DM. Health and behavioral interventions aimed at weight reduction and lifestyle improvement are important because they effectively reduce the risk of developing diabetes and improve glycemic control among individuals living with the disease, thereby positively impacting quality of life and reducing long-term health complications.
