Born Different: Clinical Journeys Through Genetics
NEOGEN-I Research Group Holds Its First Activity at the University of Jordan

The Neonatal Genetics Insights (NEOGEN-I) Research Group successfully held its first official activity, titled “Born Different: Clinical Journeys Through Genetics," on December 31, 2025, at the Bahjat Al-Talhouni Auditorium, Health Halls Complex, University of Jordan. This event marked an important milestone for NEOGEN-I as a newly established interdisciplinary collaboration network focused on neonatal genetics.

The activity brought together clinicians, researchers, and trainees to explore real-world clinical experiences in neonatal genetics, with a particular focus on diagnostic challenges, multidisciplinary decision-making, and research integration. The event aimed to foster dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among professionals working in genetic medicine and related fields.

The agenda began with a welcoming and team introduction session, moderated by group leader Prof. Eman Badran, followed by a project presentation outlining the vision, objectives, and future directions of NEOGEN-I. The presentation highlighted the group's commitment to advancing accurate neonatal genomic assessment, research, and education, especially in the context of regional genetic health needs.

The scientific program featured two interactive case-based sessions.

  • Case Session I (Group A) included a detailed case presentation by 6th year medical students (Dana Omar and Mohammad Alzboon), followed by a panel discussion led by Mrs. Nadeen Jaradat and Ms. Dunia Abu Rezeq, and an open research team discussion.

  • Case Session II (Group B) featured a case presentation by by 6th year medical students (Hothaifa Hamad and Ahmad Nabeel), with a panel discussion led by Dr. Bilal Azab and Dr. Rana Al Jaberi, concluding with an engaging team discussion.

These sessions emphasized clinical reasoning, genetic interpretation, and collaborative problem-solving, allowing participants to reflect on diverse “clinical journeys" faced by patients born with genetic conditions.

The event concluded with a closing session, which included a group photo.

Born Different: Clinical Journeys Through Genetics" successfully set the tone for NEOGEN-I's mission and future activities. The research group looks forward to building on this momentum through continued interdisciplinary engagement, and research output in neonatal and clinical genetics at the University of Jordan and beyond.
