Prof. Raed Nasri Jameel Abu Moanes Prof. Abu Moanes is not merely an academic; he is a methodological authority where the roots of Usul al-Fiqh intersect with the demands of contemporary Islamic financial and banking applications. He holds dual doctoral degrees—one in Islamic Jurisprudence and Legal Theory / Legislative Methodology (2004), and another in Islamic Banking / Finance and Sukuk (2011). This unique specialization positions him as a cornerstone of the project “Maqasid al-Sharia: Principles of Justice and Mercy.”
His scholarly contributions revolve around Maqasid al-Sharia and legislative methodologies, most notably reflected in his seminal book “The Method of Reasoning by Wisdom and Its Impact on Islamic Legislation” and his doctoral dissertation “Constants and Variables in Islamic Legislation,” which skillfully addresses the foundations of renewal and sets criteria for acceptable stability and change in both principles and branches—an essential function for ensuring justice and mercy in legislative application.
Prof. Abu Moanes has authored numerous influential works and published peer-reviewed research, including:
In addition to chairing the Department of Islamic Jurisprudence and Legal Theory at the University of Jordan, his leadership is evident in enriching academic research through supervising and examining dozens of theses in jurisprudence, legal theory, and Islamic finance—ensuring the continuity of maqasid-based thought.
He is an active member of Sharia policy-making committees, serving as a Sharia Board Member for Al Rajhi Bank (Jordan branches), a member of the Sharia Committee of AAOIFI (Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions), and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Values. His role as a reference point linking maqasid-based thought with contemporary application makes him an indispensable contributor to any project focused on higher objectives and principles of Sharia.
