Sukayna Ali, a member of this research group, successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis titled "An Analysis of Explicatures in English-Arabic Subtitles of the ‘FRIENDS’ Sitcom on Netflix." She earned her Ph.D. from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia. Her research focused on the explicitations made by subtitlers for Arab viewers watching English content, demonstrating that these modifications are influenced by linguistic and cultural factors. A key element in her findings was the role of religion, which, along with societal norms, drives subtitlers to include or omit certain parts of the subtitles, especially when sensitive religious topics are involved.​​
