Behavioral Economics and Its Applications from an Islamic Perspective: The Jordanian Zakat Fund as a Model

The academic paper presented at the conference explored the concept of behavioral economics, its biases, clarify the similarities and differences between behavioral economics and traditional economics, clarify the relationship between behavioral economics and the Islamic economy, clarify the role of the Jordanian Zakat Fund, and verify how the principles of behavioral economics are used to encourage individuals to pay Zakat.
The study concluded that Islamic economics is the same methodology upon which the theories of behavioral economics were based. The Jordanian Zakat Fund faces several obstacles that may limit its work that can be avoided by applying behavioral economics.
Accordingly, the study recommends studying the suggestions and the solutions that were expected to enhance the collectivity of Zakat. The solutions that were presented in the study are deducting 10% of charity fund to be used in marketing campaigns, initiation of business men forum to uphold thw Jordainian Zakat Fund and its activites, completion of Zakat law draft ratification and encouraging the nonmonetary Zakat.
Also, the study prompts several suggestions which are Program of rewarding the benefactors, text messages, forming Zakat Fund Partners team, and calling for the expansion of the role of Jordanian Islamic banks in the service of Zakat, and the need for the Jordanian Zakat Fund for support from several sectors and institutions to activate the fund's role and to consider amending the name of the Jordanian Zakat Fund to become the Jordanian Zakat and Charity Fund. Finally, we call for an interest in studying behavioral economics and its relationship to the Islamic economy and conducting more research on it in Arabic.
