About:

Dr Zahra Rattray is a pharmacist and translational pharmaceutics researcher at the University of Strathclyde. Since establishing her research team in 2018, she has focused on taking drug development from bench to clinic, addressing real-world challenges in translating pharmaceutical innovations into safe and effective therapies. She also serves as Academic in Residence at the UK Laboratory of the Government Chemist and holds an honorary academic position at the University of Liverpool.

Her research spans nanoparticle characterization, antibody engineering, cell-penetrating peptides and antibodies, parenteral formulations, and the development of biorelevant models to evaluate drug delivery platforms. Her work links the physicochemical attributes of formulations to in vivo performance and biodistribution, helping guide the design of next-generation therapeutics.

Dr Rattray has a wealth of experience in both academia and industry. She has worked at Yale School of Medicine developing novel cell-penetrating autoantibodies, at AstraZeneca on pre-clinical and late-stage parenteral formulations, and at the University of Manchester on peptide and protein aggregation research. She has also practiced as a registered pharmacist, providing healthcare advice to the public.

Beyond her research, Dr Rattray is passionate about mentoring and outreach, coaching undergraduates and graduates, and inspiring the next generation of scientists. She welcomes collaborations on biorelevant models and innovative drug delivery strategies.
