Ongoing MSc Research Under the supervision of Dr. Rana Yousef – Dima Najeh Abu-Johar
Title: Integrating Business Process Models with Generative AI for Automated Story Point Estimation in Agile Projects

Problem Addressed:

- Traditional Agile story point estimation methods (e.g., Planning Poker) are subjective and inconsistent.

- Machine learning models require large historical datasets, which are often unavailable in new or small projects.

- There is a need for a more structured, scalable, and explainable estimation approach.

Proposed Solution:

- A novel framework that converts user stories into BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) diagrams.

- BPMN diagrams are parsed into structured XML, representing process complexity through elements such as tasks, gateways, events, and participants.

- This structured information is used to generate prompts for GPT-4, a Generative AI model, which estimates story points based on the described process.

Role of Generative AI (GPT-4):

- Acts as an intelligent estimator by analyzing structured BPMN data.

- Understands process flow, complexity, and context through natural language prompts.

- Produces story point estimates using the Fibonacci scale, without the need for historical training data.

- Adds automation and interpretability to the estimation process.​

Our students have successfully completed and submitted their innovative project SmartDx to the Twelfth International Technology Parade at Al-Hussein Technical University. SmartDx is an AI-powered diagnostic platform designed to assist both patients and general practitioners in symptom interpretation, referral suggestions, and health guidance.
