Prof. Emad Al-Karablieh is a professor of water and natural resource economics at the University of Jordan with over 25 years of experience in research, teaching, and policy advisory in the fields of water economics, environmental resource management, and drought risk reduction. He holds a PhD in Agribusiness Management from Kiel University, Germany. His research focuses on integrated drought risk management, the economic impacts of climate change on agriculture, and the design of adaptation strategies such as managed aquifer recharge, water reuse, and desalination.
Prof. Al-Karablieh has contributed significantly to national and regional drought policies, serving on Jordan's National Drought Management Committee and the Drought Technical Committee at the Ministry of Water and Irrigation. He worked as a drought expert for the MENAdrought project led by IWMI, and led several assessments on drought vulnerability for ICBA, socioeconomic impacts, and policy responses in Jordan, KSA, Iraq and the wider Arab region.
He has published extensively in international journals and co-authored several flagship reports on drought and water security. He regularly coordinates capacity-building programs in water and drought management for government institutions and regional organizations.
