The majority of children in Jordan are affected by dental caries. Many report consuming sugary snacks frequently, brushing their teeth irregularly and attending the dentist only when in pain. Previous studies suggest that there is a lack of awareness in Jordanian families in regards to some aspects of caries prevention. Video-games have been successfully used to deliver health education, and more specifically oral health education, to children. Most Jordanian schools are reported to have computer labs and most households are reported to have access to the internet and at least one smart device.
Several members of the group have worked to develop an oral health education video game in collaboration with a local software company with experience in educational video game development. The prototype video game was then tested in a children user-group pilot at JUH its impact on oral health knowledge and practices was evaluated by performing a randomised controlled trial in public schools in Amman, Jordan.
