Our prospective trial regarding the effect of spinal anesthetic and intravenous oxytocin infusion in patients undergoing operative hysteroscopic procedures.
This study has substantially influenced our approach in these patients as it decreases the amount of fluid used in these procedures.
As we are using monopolar diathermy generators, glycine is the appropriate distending fluid used. Glycine absorption is associated with electrolyte disturbance in the form of hypokalemia and hyponatremia which are very ominous and dangerous complications.
This study decreased significantly the rate of glycine deficit and subsequently the overall complications for these patients.
