Researcher Safa’ Twahya, a master's student in the Pharmaceutical Administration program at the University of Jordan, showcased her graduate research at the 2nd Scientific Conference for Graduate Students, titled “Current and Future Trends in Graduate Studies Programs,” held at Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan.
She presented a scientific poster titled:
"Utilization of Antidepressant Treatments in Jordan from an Economic Perspective: A Comparative Study".
This research, co-authored with Dr. Rima Hijazeen and Prof. Ibrahim Alabbadi, provided a comprehensive retrospective market analysis of antidepressant use in Jordan’s private sector between 2019 and 2023, drawing on data from IQVIA and AMS.
Safa's study revealed a growing trend toward the use of newer antidepressants like SSRIs and SNRIs, underscoring their economic impact and prescribing patterns across gender and age groups. Her findings also highlighted the need for improved accessibility to affordable mental health treatments and informed health policies to mitigate the rising burden of depression.
This work contributes significantly to the field of pharmaceutical economics and mental health policy in Jordan and the broader MENA region.
