Strengthening Maternal and Newborn Healthcare in Jordan: Estimating Financial Needs for Sustainable Improvements

As a Subject-Matter Expert in Health Economics, Dr. Rimal Mousa contributed to a crucial initiative aimed at strengthening maternal and newborn healthcare in Jordan. My role involved estimating financial needs at both national and subnational levels to support the implementation of an Improvement Plan of Action (IPA). By analyzing incremental costs associated with new Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (EmONC) interventions, we aim to:
A significant step in this effort was a specialized workshop held with the National Technical Committee for EmONC, under the leadership of UNFPA Jordan and in collaboration with the Health Care Accreditation Council (HCAC). This workshop focused on:

📌 Reviewing the comprehensive roadmap to enhance maternal and newborn healthcare

📌 Identifying priorities and estimated costs for effective implementation

📌 Aligning with national strategies to reduce maternal mortality and improve care quality

This initiative builds on the findings of a 2022 national assessment of obstetric and neonatal services, ensuring that interventions are evidence-based and financially sustainable. The final roadmap will be submitted to His Excellency the Minister of Health for approval, reinforcing Jordan’s commitment to improving maternal and newborn health outcomes.​
