Revealing the Extent of Change in the Land Cover and Land Uses in AlRamtha District, North Jordan Using Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems ،for the Period (1985-2014) and Future Prediction of Land Uses and Land Cover
Research Summary
This study deals with discovering the alteration in land cover and land uses in Al-Ramtha district, north Jordan using Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing، where only three categories are tested as follows: urban lands, agricultural lands and barren lands. This study aims at revealing the extent of change among these categories through relying on Landsat Satellite images within that particular area through the years 1985, 1995, 2002 and 2010 with conducting a classification for the studied land categories. The extent of change in these ratings has been predicted until 2030 through the use of time series (Markov) analysis. The results show that there is a remarkable change within the space for uses of land and land cover in into the study area, where agricultural lands increased in the period (1985-2014) by 5.96% and urban lands increased by 9.68%, while barren lands decreased by 15.64%. Moreover, this study suggests using appropriate planning for land uses and land cover taking into consideration the characteristics of the region. In addition, it recommends taking care of vegetation and reducing the expansion of urban land at the expense of agricultural land.

Noor AL-shgoor,
Study of land cover change in al-Karak governorate during the
period 2017-1986, using GIS, RS
Research Summary
This study aims to develop a classification of land cover patterns in Karak governorate through supervised classification process for space coverings of land cover and land use during 1986 and 2017, using geographic information systems and remote sensing. To detect the change of land cover and land use and indicate the factors affecting it.The study found the classification of land cover and land use into six main types: (built up land), and barren land (Barren land), and agricultural land (farm land), land Pastoral land, land and forestry, land and water bodies, and salts land of water bodies. The percentage of change in the built-up lands was about 135.35%, the barren land reached 20.11%, the agricultural lands -20.37% and the pastoral lands - 34.11%. The rate of change in forest and forest land was -42.2% and in water and salt land -8.18% during the period 1986-2017. The results showed that there is a decline in all types of land cover Land use excluding built-up and barren land could lead to degradation of vegetation. The study recommended encouraging investment in Karak, especially in the agricultural sector, and the tourism sector in particular Ecotourism such as Wadi Mujib and Wadi Ibn Hammad, reducing urbanization at the expense of agricultural land.
