As part of its community engagement efforts and commitment to promoting environmental awareness, the Department of Geography at the University of Jordan—through the Alumni and Student Follow-up Committee—launched the “Towards a Greener Jordan… Let’s Start Now” initiative in Jerash Governorate, under the patronage of the Head of the Jerash Municipality Committee, and supervised by Prof. Dalal Zregat. Dr. Heba Alkhasoneh, and Dr. Safaa Al wedyan.
The initiative included a tree-planting campaign of more than 50 trees, including olive, fig, and forest trees, with the participation of local governmental and educational institutions, in addition to students from the Department of Geography who contributed significantly to organizing the activity and planting the trees.
This initiative aims to enhance environmental awareness among students and the local community, encouraging volunteerism and practices that support sustainability and the protection of natural resources, in line with the University of Jordan’s vision of preparing an aware and proactive generation engaged with environmental issues.
The initiative also reflects an effective partnership between the University of Jordan and local community institutions, contributing to improving the local environment and fostering greater attention to environmental issues within the governorate.
