Resources

1. Research Infrastructure & Equipment
Our group is supported by state-of-the-art facilities and tools to investigate ageing, frailty, and wellbeing in older adults:

  • High-resolution dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and portable dynamometers for assessing body composition and muscle mass/ strength; the hallmark of sarcopenia and frailty.
  • Gait-analysis walkway and wearable inertial sensors to measure mobility, balance and functional decline.
  • Cognitive assessment tools for executive function, memory, attention and processing speed in older populations. These include different validated tools that can be applied to older adults with different levels of education.
  • Telehealth and mobile-health platforms (tablet/smartphone) for remote monitoring of physical activity, mood, sleep patterns and social engagement.

2. Data Resources

  • Access to data
    • A longitudinal cohort of community-dwelling older adults (> 60 years) with detailed sociodemographic, clinical, functional and psychosocial data — enabling conducting evidence-based research on the assessments and needs of older adults and framing subsequent policies.
    • Advanced statistical software (R, Stata, SAS, SPSS) and specialized packages for survival analysis, competing risks, latent-class modelling, and validation of frailty indices.
