About:

​Dr. Areej M. Derbas is a Jordanian sociologist and university lecturer with extensive academic and applied research experience in development studies, social issues, and technology-enhanced education. She earned her PhD in Sociology from the University of Jordan in 2021, following an MSc in Sociology (2002) from the same institution and a BSc in Sociology from Yarmouk University (1999).

Her professional career includes teaching appointments at the University of Jordan and Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan, alongside research consultancy roles with the King Hussein Foundation. Dr. Derbas’s scholarly work focuses on development and sustainable development, family and childhood issues, women’s empowerment, refugee studies, social problems, and e-learning. She has published in reputable international journals such as PLOS ONE, Migration Letters, and the International Journal of Advanced and Applied Sciences, and has presented her research at international conferences, including IEEE-indexed venues​​.

Her interdisciplinary profile bridges sociology with digital transformation in education, contributing evidence-based insights into how e-learning, AI, and emerging technologies can support social development and higher-education outcomes in Jordan and the region​.
