Associate Professor of Linguistics/Translation Studies
My research endeavors have largely been devoted to the analysis of the systemic and non-systemic differences between English and Arabic and their influence on the interpretation and translation processes in this language pair. My research has also attempted to trace the linguistic and stylistic features of English-Arabic literary translation and compare them with those of Arabic non-translated literary texts. The ultimate objective of my research is to help establish a larger theoretical framework for the analysis of the universal (linguistic/socio-cultural) features of literary translation. I have recently started to apply narrative theory to the analysis of media translation in an attempt to describe the role of translators/translation agencies in elaborating particular narratives that fuel political conflicts.
