Dr. Omar Abu-Ghalyoun is an assistant professor of mathematics education at the University of Jordan, joining the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the second semester of the 2024–2025 academic year. He holds a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Jordan, and earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Western Michigan University in 2019. His research interests include mathematics curricula that incorporate student thinking, digital learning tools, inquiry-based instruction, and pre-service teacher education.
Dr. Abu-Ghalyoun brings over fifteen years of experience in curriculum design, teacher education, e-learning, and educational reform across the Arab region. He has co-authored more than one hundred textbooks, teacher guides, and training packages for ministries of education in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and Iraq. He held senior technical roles in government-funded programs, serving as Deputy Director and later Director of the National Center for Curriculum Development (NCCD) in Jordan from 2020 to 2025, where he led nationwide curriculum modernization and contributed to national educational committees. In addition to his academic and governmental roles, Dr. Abu-Ghalyoun has worked in consultancy positions with international organizations, including UNESCO and Pearson Education Co., contributing to regional projects focused on teacher training and curriculum development. He is an active member of the PME-NA (Psychology of Mathematics Education – North America) and the AMTE (Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators), and has attended several of their annual conferences.
He has published in prestigious journals, including Educational Studies in Mathematics, and continues to contribute to the advancement of mathematics education through research, policy, and practice.
