Developing Iraq Al-Amir as a Sustainable Tourism Destination

Dr. Muna Slehat Highlights the Development of Iraq Al-Amir as a Tourism Destination in a Lecture for Architectural Design Students at the Faculty of Engineering
Within the framework of interdisciplinary collaboration between the Department of Tourism Management and the Department of Architectural Engineering at the University of Jordan, Dr. Muna Slehat delivered an academic lecture to architectural design students focusing on the Iraq Al-Amir site as a potential sustainable tourism destination. The lecture highlighted the site’s historical, architectural, and environmental significance, with particular attention to Qasr Al-Abd and the surrounding heritage houses, while emphasizing the importance of conservation and sustainable development.

The lecture also explored future development opportunities, including the conceptual design of a tourist hotel integrated with the natural and cultural landscape and aligned with the site’s overall planning context. In support of collaborative academic engagement, the initiative “Iraq Al-Amir: A Model for Sustainable Urban and Tourism Development” is to be launched, targeting students of tourism planning and urban planning from both departments. The initiative aims to involve students in applied, interdisciplinary projects that propose innovative, environmentally responsible solutions for enhancing tourism infrastructure, public spaces, transportation systems, and essential services, while preserving the site’s archaeological and environmental identity.
