A) Water Properties Analysis Laboratory (Physical–Chemical–Biological)
Laboratory Description
:This laboratory is used to assess water quality and link it to bioindicators and biodiversity monitoring. It includes both field and laboratory measurements of physical, chemical, and biological properties.
Examples of Analyses:
Physical analyses: Temperature, turbidity, electrical conductivity.
Chemical analyses: pH, dissolved oxygen, nutrients (nitrates, phosphates), heavy metals.
Biological analyses: Identification of plankton, microbial counts, bioindicator species assessment.
Instruments Used (with Role)
Multi-parameter device (pH/EC/DO/Temp): For measuring water quality parameters.
Turbidity meter: For assessing water clarity and suspended particles.
Sample preparation equipment (filtration, preservation, cooling, sample bottles…): For proper handling and storage of collected samples.
Ion/element analysis instruments (depending on availability: ICP/IC/UV-Vis…): For analyzing major ions and trace elements in water samples.
B) Morphology & Taxonomy Lab
Laboratory Description
: Used for sorting biological samples and classifying organisms (such as aquatic invertebrates, aquatic plants, diatoms…), with visual documentation of results to support scientific publication and database records.
Classification Mechanism and Collaboration with Specialists
Use of scientific identification keys and approved references.
Verification of taxonomic identity in collaboration with taxonomic experts when needed.
Instruments Used
Stereo Microscope: For macroscopic examination and sample sorting.
Light Microscope: For precise diagnostic examination.
Microscope-mounted Camera: For scientific image documentation (documentation, measurements, diagnostic features).
Stereo Microscope (Leica S6 D, magnification 6.3–40×, equipped with a digital camera): Used for macroscopic examination, sample sorting, and documentation.
Compound Light Microscope (Leica DM750): Used for detailed microscopic examination and taxonomic studies.
C)DNA/PCR
Laboratory Description:
Used to support traditional taxonomy and to confirm the identity of certain samples that are difficult to distinguish morphologically.
