Dr. Refat Nimer is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST). Dr. Refat holds certification as a Medical Laboratory Specialist (MLS) from the Ministry of Health in Jordan. He obtained his B.Sc. in Medical Technology from the Faculty of Medicine at JUST in 2001 and his master’s degree in clinical Biochemistry in 2006 from JUST. Dr. Refat worked from 2001 to 2012 as a Medical Technologist, Laboratory Supervisor, and Lab Director—in diagnostic labs, hospitals, and clinics across Jordan, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. In 2012, Dr. Refat was awarded a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship to pursue his Ph.D. at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany. In 2017, Dr. Refat joined the American University of Madaba (AUM) for one year then in 2018, he transferred to his mother university JUST as a faculty member. Dr. Refat holds the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board as a Specialist in Clinical Chemistry, SC (ASCPi) as the first doctor in Jordan had received this title. Dr. Refat published several papers in peer-reviewed journals (Q1 and Q2) and supervised several personnel and postgradute projects. Dr. Refat main research interests include: 1- applying mass spectrometry-based omics (proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics) and IR spectroscopy to identify novel biomarkers and decipher molecular mechanisms driving complex diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders, 2- developing quantitative methods for analyzing lipidomes, metabolomes, and proteomes to improve disease diagnosis and treatment, 3- Vitamins and antioxidants, 4- Diagnostic and quality control in medical laboratories.
