Dr. Lina Dahabiyeh Contributes to the 4th Clinical Applications of Mass Spectrometry Workshop at KFSHRC

Members of our research group, Dr. Lina Dahabiyeh and Dr. Anas Abdel Rahman, actively contributed to the 4th Clinical Applications of Mass Spectrometry Workshop, held on the third week of December 2025 at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The workshop was organized by the Metabolomics Section at the Centre for Genomic Medicine, KFSHRC, and led by Dr. Anas Abdel Rahman, who played a central role in the scientific planning and delivery of the program. The workshop aimed to provide participants with comprehensive knowledge and hands-on skills for the effective application of advanced mass spectrometry techniques in clinical settings, addressing key learning needs and knowledge gaps among healthcare and laboratory professionals.

As part of the scientific program, Dr. Lina Dahabiyeh delivered two invited lectures:

  • “Disease Biomarker Discovery", presented within the Clinical Metabolomics session, highlighting mass spectrometry–based strategies for the identification and interpretation of disease-related biomarkers.
  • “The Analysis of Biologics and Biosimilars Using Mass Spectrometry", delivered in the Pharmacology Mass Spectrometry session, focusing on advanced analytical approaches for the characterization and evaluation of biologics and biosimilar products in clinical and research settings.

In addition, Dr. Anas Abdel Rahman contributed multiple lectures throughout the workshop, including sessions on mass spectrometry principles, clinical proteomics, and protein biomarker analysis, further strengthening the workshop's translational and clinical focus.

The workshop covered a wide range of topics, including clinical proteomics, metabolomics, biochemical genetics, pharmacology, and clinical chemistry, complemented by practical, hands-on training in instrument operation, data acquisition, and troubleshooting.

The workshop targeted laboratory and medical technologists, scientists and research technicians, pharmacists, toxicologists, and professionals in clinical and biochemical genetics, providing an important platform for capacity building and knowledge exchange in clinical mass spectrometry.
